Lebanon - Implementation of a foreign divorce (executive formula)

The implementation of an enforceable foreign divorce decision in Lebanon is subject to legal procedures. First, getting an enforceable decision from the foreign country where it was issued, translating it into Arabic language if produced in another language, and making the necessary legalizations. Second, registering the divorce decision at the Lebanese embassy or consulate, which in turn drafts a divorce certificate and sends it to the Ministry of foreign affairs (MOF) in Lebanon. The MOF delivers the divorce certificate and the decision to the petitioner or his/her representative who has to get an executive version of the foreign divorce decision by decision of the competent president of the civil appeal court pursuant to article number (1013) of the Code of Civil Procedure, to implement the divorce before the relevant personal status department. The demand for giving the foreign divorce decision an executive formula must fulfill the stipulated conditions in article (1014) of the said law
